Description
Tetracycline is used for treatment of chronic inflammatory cells. Tetracycline derivatives induce apoptosis in osteoclasts, Jurkat T lymphocyte cells and in cultured monocytes and macrophages. It is a compound that has been shown to induce apoptosis in various cells.
This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
General Description
• Tetracycline is a semisynthetic compound derived from chlortetracycline, an isolate from Streptomyces aureofaciens
• Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic that inhibits polypeptide formation by binding the 30S ribosomal subunit and preventing aminoacyl tRNA-mRNA complex formation
• It may have other bactericidal properties such as limited binding to the 50S subunit
Application
• Tetracycline has been shown to exhibit antiprotozoal properties
• It can be used to kill both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
• It is suitable for use in laboratory applications in resistance gene testing and research on infection
