Description

Description

Bialaphos Sodium Salt is a tripeptide antibiotic that is employed in the transformation experiments of many species of plants that make use of the bar gene for selection. It is more effective than glufosinate in corn. In wheat, bialaphos was the most reliable selection criteria used to identify bar transformed plants.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General Description

  • Bialaphos sodium consists of two L-alanyl units attached to L-phosphinothricyl
  • Bialaphos is a bacterial metabolite and an antimicrobial

Application

  • Bialaphos is commonly used for transformation experiments in some plant species as a selection agent
  • Bialaphos sodium can be used as a standard for metabolite and environmental contaminant determination in laboratory settings
